Triplicator - Quick Facts
• Compact, desktop hardware device that enables data to be copied to multiple drives as easily and quickly as writing data to a single drive.
• Support the simultaneous writing of data to up to three target drives via high-speed eSATA.
• Connects to the host computer over FireWire 800, USB 2.0 or 3Gb eSATA. FireWire 400 is also supported through a FireWire 800 to 400 cable*
• Triplicator presents all connected target drives to the host computer in the same way as a standard single drive is.
• Triplicator initialises all target drives and allows the host computer to format them to the user's requirements just as if they were individual drives.
• Each target drive can be used individually after all copy processes have been completed. These drives are usable just like any drive would normally be with all data 100% identical to the source and across all target drives used in the copy process.
• All copied (target) drives utilise the format/file-system chosen when formatted by the host computer prior to the copy/working process. There is no proprietary format utilised by Triplicator.
• Support any working drive that features an eSATA connection.
• Equally suited for field or studio use.
• The perfect tool for making copies of data and content for editing, backup and temporary disk archives in any production environment.
• Initialise Drives button protects users from accidentally connecting incorrect target drives. Target drives are not initialised for use (resulting in any existing data on the drives being erased) until the Initialise Drives button is pressed.
• Features an internal universal auto-switching power supply.
• Optional 1U rack mount kits available.
• Ships with the same hard-shell plastic carrying case as included with all Glyph GT050Q and GT062E Professional Hard Drives.
• Includes a 9-pin FireWire 800 cable, power cable, three 1.5' eSATA cables (for target drives) and one 3' eSATA cable for host connection.
• Comprehensive 3-Year Factory Warranty.
• 1-Year Advance Replacement Warranty.
*FW800 to FW400 cable, and USB 2.0 cable is not included with Triplicator.
Quite simply Triplicator makes the process or copying data to multiple disks for editing, distribution, backup and temporary disk archiving incredibly easy for users. Triplicator saves users time and energy by doing up to three copies in a single action. When data is copied to Triplicator's presented volume on the host computer identical data is copied to all of the connected target drives. A perfect solution for any production workflow Triplicator makes valuable copies of your data and is equally suited for field and location work as it for studio use.
Here's how it works.
• Connect between one and three drives to Triplicator's eSATA device (target) ports.
• Connect Triplicator to a computer via FireWire 800, USB 2.0 or 3Gb eSATA.
• Power on the target drives and Triplicator, and the Triplicator's LED will confirm how many target drives are attched.
• Pressing the Initialise Drives button on Triplicator will prepare the target drives for use and present them to the host computer as a single drive.
• Copy all data and content to the single drive volume that Triplicator presents to the host computer.
That is it.
Triplicator makes 100% identical copies of data to all connected target drives. Each target drive can then be used individually as if it were an original copy holding the data and content written through the Triplicator.
Using Triplicator.
Triplicator also provides important information during the copy process. The front panel includes a button designed to guard against unintended drive initialisation. Once Triplicator is powered on, the LED illuminates blue and blinks to indicate that a button press is required. On the button press the attached target drives will initialise and the blue LED will become solid. After a few seconds a volume will be visible to the host computer that needs to be formatted by the computer's operating system just like any drive would normally have to be. After Triplicator has initialised the target drives the LED will go red and blinks to indicate the number of target drives utilised. If no drives are attached, or have not been initialised the LED will change to a solid red. If a discovered drive disappears during the course of the copy process the LED will also change to a solid red state.
Writing data and content through Triplicator is just like writing data to any normal drive attached to the host computer. Read and write speeds will be the same as those seen on a typical professional single hard disk drive such as Glyph's GT050Q. All data copies are completely simultaneous and once the user is done working with the drives they can simply unmount the volume Triplicator has presented just like any standard drive. It is then safe to disconnect the target drives, which can be used individually as if it were a source master of the data.
What drives does Triplicator support?
Triplicator supports any healthy drive that features a working eSATA connection as well as all Glyph GT050Q, GT062E, PortaGig 50 and PortaGig 62 models. It is best, but not necessary, for all target drives to be the same capacity. If three 500GB drives are connected then the created volume will be 500GB, but if two 500GB drives and a 250GB drive are used as target drives then the volume capacity will be equal to the smallest drive, meaning the volume capacity would be 250GB.
Each time Triplicator is used and the initialisation button pressed the attached target drives will be initialised with any existing data on the target drives erased. This is the intended behaviour as Triplicator is designed to make multiple copies for backup, editing and distribution of content.
